The material for wax dyeing:
The fabrics for wax dyeing are usually hand-woven white cloth, but some times, loom-woven white cloth, silk and poplin are also utilized. Yellow wax, another names is beeswax, is used as dyeing-proof agent and, Sometimes, its mixture with white wax can also be used. Beeswax is a kind of secretion from a wax gland in a bee’s belly. It is not dissolvable in water but can be melted by heating. This specific property is utilized as the dyeing-proof agent. Indigo dyestuff is applied and a self-made steel knife is used for painting patterns by coating wax. According to the needs of painting various lines, the knives have to be with different sizes and shapes such as semicircle, triangle, axe-shaped and so on.
The production method and technological process for folk wax dyeing.
   1).Coating wax
Firstly, a piece of white cloth should be stretched out and put on a wooden board or a table, a knife is used to dip the heated and melted wax liquor in a porcelain bowl or a metal jar to paint various patterns by coating the wax liquor onto the surface of the fabric.
The wax-coated fabric is put into a container which contains indigo dyestuff liquor, usually it takes 5 or 6 days for the fabric to be soaked in the liquor. After the first time of being soaked, the fabric can be got out of the liquor and got dried, thus the light blue colour can be obtained. If the fabric is put into the liquor again and again for several times, the blue colour would become darker and darker. On the fabric, If some parts with both dark and light blue colour are wanted, after the first time of being soaked, patterns can be painted once again by coating wax liquor and also soaked once again, thus, patterns with both dark and light blue can be obtained. When the fabric painted with wax is put into the indigo blue dyestuff liquor, as a result of folding, some natural veins which is called “ice vein” appear on the parts of the fabric covered by wax stuff. Some times, this “ice vein”, as required, is produced which makes the gradation of the wax-dyed patterns richer and are with natural and unique flavor.
  3).Removing wax
After washing, the wax stuff on the fabric should and can be removed by boiling water and finally by bleaching, and washing, Some clearly demarcated blue and white veins come out.
